Michigan Software Firm Creates ERP for MetalCasters

 

Bridgman, MI, August 25, 2014 - Bridgman, Michigan-based ERP system provider, B&L Information Systems, has announced an open house on September 18, 2014. The 9,000 square foot B&L office was built at 4707 Rambo Road in July 1997 to house the growing software firm and provide a training space for their manufacturing clientele. In 2014, B&L has hosted a total of five on-site client training classes, with two additional training classes planned for 2014 in their newly refreshed space.

B&L Information Systems was founded in 1976 by Richard (Dick) Laney and a partner as a software company developing management information systems for manufacturers. Housed in office space on Lake Street in Bridgman, the company grew quickly with initial customers including a foundry, a die caster and a plastic injection molder. In the beginning, the software was custom-designed for every customer's specific needs and processes by a team of B&L business consultants and programmers.

As the customer base was refined exclusively to metalcasters, and process similarities were discovered, B&L's R&D Department created a software system designed to fit the metalcasting industry, BLIS, based on the commonly used AS-400 manufacturing server. B&L pioneered the first metalcasting software users' conference in 1982. In 2000, B&L Information Systems built a Windows-based ERP system, Odyssey, to increase information integration from the shop floor to the office. As the availability and acceptance of Software as a Service (SaaS) moved into the manufacturing sector, B&L was at the forefront with Odyssey SaaS in 2009. Now in the second generation of management with Philip Laney (pictured right) at the helm, B&L Information Systems has a staff of 34 supporting the use of their technology by over 400 metalcasters worldwide.

B&L Information Systems invites the Bridgman business community to the open house which will be held from 5pm - 7pm on September 18th, 2014 at 4707 Rambo Road. Tours of the facility will commence at 5pm, light appetizers and drinks will be available. While open to the public, RSVP would be appreciated for planning.
